Govt conspiring to bring in third force, says Mosharraf

BNP Standing Committee member Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain has said the ruling Awami League (AL) is mulling to bring a third force in power apprehending its inevitable debacle in the next general election. AL is engaged in hatching conspiracy to hand over power to the third force apprehending its inevitable setback in the next general election. But the consequences of such a plot will never bring any good for the party or the country, he said.
AL cannot regain power through democracy. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will form the next government if the upcoming general poll is held in a democratic manner, he added.
Mosharraf Hossain was addressing a protest meeting organised by pro-BNP Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) at the National Press Club on Friday.
Asking the government to read wall writings he said, “There is enough time to place the caretaker government (CG) restoration bill in the upcoming session of the parliament. We will extend our full cooperation.”
He criticised AL presidium member Mohammad Nasim for his claim that Sheikh Hasina will remain in office until the next general poll is held and said, such type of claim is the outcome of the one party BKSAL mentality.
He said, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman introduced one party BKSAL rule in 1975 aiming to remain in power forever. Now it has been telling that AL Chief Sheikh Hasina would remain in power until the next parliamentary poll is held.
There are differences between 1975 and 2013. AL will be destroyed if it moves forward along with the mission, he warned.
Mosharraf said, the government is running the state in the garb of democracy. It has plunged into corruption, misdeeds and mismanagement forgetting election pledges, he blamed.
The rally was organised demanding release of Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman and Human Rights Organisation Odhikar Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan Shuvro.
BNP leaders Syed Motzzem Hossain Alal, AZM Zahid, former chief election commissioner justice M A Rauf and others spoke at the function.
In a separate programme, another standing committee member of the party, Rafiqul Islam Mia said, the ruling AL is trying to prolong its tenure creating emergency-like situation in the country.  The government is plotting to extend its term by paving way for the state of emergency. But the Constitution does not allow it to do so, he added.
The ruling party has pushed the country towards a massive crisis through the 15th amendment to the Constitution.
He was speaking at a discussion meeting marking the 69th birthday of BNP Chairperson and leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia organised by Jatiya Nagarik Shangsad at the National Press Club on Friday.
BNP standing committee member Lieutenant General Mahbubur Rahman has said, the country will plunge into a civil war immediately if the government does not resolve the prevailing political crisis over non-party caretaker issue.
“The country has been turned into a prison. A civil war may take place within two or three months if the non-party CG issue is not settled immediately,” Mahbubur Rahman made the observation at a discussion meeting on Friday.
He said, the government is creating artificial crisis in the country destroying its democratic norms and values deliberately.
Demanding holding of the next general election under a non-party CG oversight, he said the election commission, administration and members of different law enforcement agencies are serving the government purpose.
The country is heading towards a severe crisis. National unity is a must to get rid from the political disaster, he added.
He was addressing a discussion meeting on ‘Democracy and Rule of Law’ organised by Agni Sena Sangsad at the National Press Club.
BNP leader Khandakar Mahbub Hossain, Zainul Abdin Farroque and others spoke at the function with President of the forum Talukdar Jahirul Haque Tuhin in the chair.
