The government on Sunday filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the High Court order that declared the Contempt of Court Act-2013 illegal and unconstitutional.
The attorney general office filed the appeal to a relevant wing of the Supreme Court on behalf of the five secretaries including the Cabinet Division Secretary. The other four appellants are – Secretary to the President’s Office, Secretary of the Prime Minister’s office, Law Secretary and Parliament Secretariat Secretary.
The chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain sent the matter to the full bench of the apex court and fixed October 3 to hear on it.
Later, attorney general Mahbubey Alam told reporters that now the matter would be disposed of by the apex court as the chamber judge of the Appellate Division sent the matter to a full bench of the apex court for the purpose.
