The commerce and education adviser, Hossain Zillur Rahman, on Sunday said the government was traversing the last mile on road to the national polls scheduled for December 29.
‘We are now on the last mile on the highway to the elections… Best wishes to all the candidates contesting the polls,’ Zillur said as he talked with reporters at the secretariat after a meeting with the communications adviser, Ghulam Quader, who is leading an advisory panel on negotiations with political parties.
He hoped qualitative changes as desired could be ensured through a healthy competition in the elections.
The adviser expected that all concerned would play their role in transition to democracy.
Asked whether the upazila polls would be held in time as the interim government would not be in power at the time, Zillur said there was no doubt about the holding of the local government elections scheduled for January 22.
‘The process for the upazila polls has already begun and we are satisfied with the process in this respect.’
As for election manifestos of the Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, he said the manifestos were placed before the voters who would evaluate them.
‘It is not our job to analyse the election manifestoes… It is the voters who will evaluate the programmes before casting their vote,’ he said.
He hoped all would reach the desired goal through the elections.
