A cell opened in the capital’s Srama Bhaban yesterday with an aim to provide legal assistance to impoverished workers for free. Besides providing legal advice, the cell will lodge cases on behalf of workers at the labour courts. National Legal Aid Services Organisation with technical support from an UNDP project, Justice Sector Facility, will administer the cell titled “Sramik Ain Shahayata Cell”.
“The rights of workers are violated when labour law is not implemented properly,” said Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed who inaugurated the cell.
“The cell will protect the legal rights of the poor and vulnerable workers like a safeguard,” he said.
The government has established a Legal Aid Office at every district of the country to ensure that the underprivileged people get legal services, People will be able to receive the services of the cell by simply calling 01761222224.
State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Advocate Qamrul Islam; Chairman of the First Labour Court Miah Md Sharif Hossain; and President of Labour Court Bar Association Nesar Ahmed also spoke.
