Says Hasan Mahmud
The government would award people who constructively criticise its roles related to environment and wildlife preservation, State Minister for Environment and Forest Dr Hasan Mahmud said here yesterday.
Criticisms will make the government aware of its lapses and act accordingly, he said, speaking at the inauguration of a 15-day tree fair at Laldighi Maidan in the port city.
The state minister termed it positive that tree felling in any corner of the country is being reported in the media. “It is making people aware about their responsibilities”, he said.
Dr Mahmud indicated that the media should expose positive roles of the government too.
Addressing as the chief guest the programme arranged by Forest Department (Chittagong North), the state minister also criticised the role of lawmakers.
The lawmakers’ responsibilities cannot be limited in only constructing some roads and bridges; they must step up to create a green movement to cut global warming , he said.
Deputy Commissioner Fayez Ahmed presided over the programme where Divisional Commissioner Md Sirajul Haque Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Amena Begum, Forest Conservator Md Safiul Alam Chowdhury, and Divisional Forest Officer (Chittagong North Zone) Uttam Kumar Saha also spoke.
