Ecnec okays Tk 9,031cr project
The government will build 20,000 flats in the capital’s Uttara in the next five years for low and
middle income people. The project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) yesterday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.
The Tk 9,031-crore project will commence in November and is expected to be complete by June 2016.
Under the project, a total of 240 apartment (16-storey each) blocks will be constructed at sector 18 of Uttara.
The buyers will have to pay 25 percent of the total cost of the flat as down payment while the remaining amount can be paid in 96 monthly installments.
However, the sizes and prices of the apartments have not been determined yet.
Planning Secretary Monzur Hossain, who has been recently transferred to the home ministry, told reporter after the meeting that journalists, writers and civil society members are eligible to apply.
The Ecnec also approved 13 other projects that include roads, bridges and culverts, educational institutions, community centres, water and sewerage treatment plants and renewable power plants, among others.
It also okayed “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park project” involving Tk 220 crore.
The other projects approved in the meeting are: Development of Rajshahi University (1st Phase) Project (Tk 73 crore), Establishment of Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET-CT) with Cyclotron Facilities (Tk 120 crore), Establishment of National Institute of Digestive Diseases Research and Hospital (Tk 152 crore), Rural Employment Opportunities for Public Assets (REOPA) (1st revised) project (Tk 285 crore), Ensuring Employment for Ultra Poor of the Northern Region (revised) project (Tk 46 crore), Expansion and Strengthening of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (in 5 districts) (Tk 47 crore), Integrated development of Hatirjheel area including Begunbari canal project (Tk 1,971 crore), Dredging of 12 important river ways project (Tk 508 crore), Chittagong Railway Station Yard Remodeling project (Tk 252 crore), Construction of Double-line Track between Laksham and Chinki Astana (1st revised) project (Tk 1,525 crore) and identification system for enhancing access to services project (Tk 1,379 crore).
