The country’s leading mobile operator Grameenphone will launch the 3G service on commercial basis in the Bashundhara and Baridhara area today with a plan to expand the network 64 districts by March next year. The company will launch the 3G service in other areas of Dhaka and Chittagong along with Gazipur and Narayanganj within the next few weeks.The GP customers within the coverage areas will be able to use 3G service in three packages and two speed tiers, said a GP news release.
In the first tier, there are three packages under 512 kbps, starting with 2GB standard monthly plan at Tk 400.
The smartphone users have separate offer comprising unlimited data (fair usage policy after 1.5GB), voice minutes, SMS and MMS at Tk 800 and for the unlimited monthly plan (fair usage policy after 8GB) at Tk 950.
In the one MBps tier there are three packages, starting with 2GB standard monthly plan at Tk 700. For smartphone users unlimited data (fair usage policy after 1.5GB), voice minutes, SMS and MMS will be available at Tk 1,100 and for the unlimited monthly plan (fair usage policy after 8GB) will be available at Tk 1,250.
A video call to other 3G enabled GP number will cost Tk 1.20 per minute with 10 second pulse while video calls to other operators will be available in the future.
