The price of green chilli increased and most of the essentials prices remained high on the retail markets in the capital over the week ending Friday.
Though the retailers said that the end of the season pushed up the price of green chilli, the difference between the retail and the wholesale prices of the commodity was Tk 40 a kg on the day.
Green chilli price rose by Tk 20 a kilogram and was retailing at Tk 70-Tk 80 a kg while the item was selling at Tk 30-Tk 35 a kg on the wholesale markets on Friday.
Consumers and wholesalers said that retailers were hiking the price of green chilli abnormally.
The prices of okra and bitter gourd decreased by Tk 5 a kg but most of the items remained high on the retail market over the week.
Aubergine was retailing at Tk 40 a kg, cucumber at Tk 25 a kg, tomato at Tk 30 a kg, papaya at Tk 40 a kg, okra at Tk 25 a kg and bitter gourd at Tk 25-Tk 40 a kg on Friday.
The prices of onion, garlic and ginger remained unchanged over the week.
The local variety of onion was selling at Tk 35 a kg while the imported onion was retailing at Tk 30 a kg on Friday.
The local variety of garlic and ginger were selling at Tk 80 kg and Tk 110 a kg respectively on the day while the imported garlic and ginger were selling at Tk 110 a kg and Tk 90 a kg respectively.
The price of all variety of red lentil remained high and the item imported from Turkey and Canada were selling at Tk 85-Tk 90 a kg over the week.
The price of fine variety of red lentil named Kangaroo was selling at Tk 130 a kg on Friday while the local variety of red lentil was selling at Tk 115 a kg.
The price of egg decreased by Tk 2 a hali (four pieces) and it was retailing at Tk 33-Tk 34 a hali in the city’s retail markets.
The prices of fish remained high on the city’s kitchen markets over the week.
Rohita was selling at Tk 250-Tk 320 a kg, katla at Tk 220-Tk 300 a kg, pangas at Tk 140-Tk 250 a kg and tilapia at Tk 140-Tk 160 a kg depending on their size and quality.
Broiler price remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 145-Tk 155 a kg on the day.
The prices of beef and mutton remained stable.
Beef was selling at Tk 280-Tk 300 a kg and mutton at Tk 425-Tk 450 a kg on Friday.
Both unpacked soyabean and super palm oil prices remained unchanged and the commodities were retailing at Tk 120 a kg and Tk 82 a kg respectively on the day.
The price of bottled soya bean oil (five litres) remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 655 to Tk 665 at the Karwan Bazar kitchen market.
The price of sugar remained steady and the commodity was selling at Tk 48 a kg on the day.
The newly-harvested miniket and najirshail were selling at Tk 42 a kg and Tk 44 a kg respectively while the old varieties were selling at Tk 46 a kg and Tk 48 a kg respectively on the day.
