Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan on Wednesday called on the people to protect the River Buriganga from pollution and make the capital city livable.
BAPA made the call at a workshop on ‘Buriganga River and Our Life’ on the premises of Basila High School in cooperation with Buriganga Riverkeeper.BAPA executive member Syed Abul Moksud, Buriganga Riverkeeper joint secretary Sharif Jamil, Asia region coordinator of Water Keeper Alliances Charles Deepman, BAPA joint secretary Mihir Biswas and executive member Md Nuruddin and Basila High School headmaster Md Ashraful Alam spoke at the workshop.
Syed Abul Moksud said the capital-centric development planning would be meaningless if the Buriganga and other rivers could not be kept hygienic.
The government should raise some funds for preserving the rivers as well as for their development by curtailing funds from development projects, he added.
Sharif Jamil said the students of the Basil School should conduct a cleaning drive to keep rivers hygienic besides their study.
The organisers called on the people for preserving the rivers and the people should be aware of protecting the rivers.
