Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the people as well as her party leaders and activists to remain alert about any conspiracy of opposition leader Khaleda Zia against the nation. “Who knows what conspiracies Khaleda Zia hatches this time after her return from Singapore. So, I urge all concerned to stay vigilant about her any conspiracy against the country,” she told a discussion meeting marking the 64th founding anniversary of her party Awami League in Dhaka on Friday.
The prime minister recalled the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the opposition leader after her return from Singapore last time and said: “At that time, she conspired in Singapore to oust government. I have no idea what conspiracy she will hatch this time against the nation after she comes back home from there.” Sheikh Hasina told the opposition leader that a non-party and neutral caretaker government as demanded by her Bangladesh Nationalist Party would not bring any benefit whatsoever for BNP and urged Khaleda Zia and other leaders of her party to refrain from making any demand for it further.
The prime minister said that if the caretaker government is formed again in the country, it will try to stay in power sending her as well as the opposition leader to prison like in the past. She said BNP can win elections when Awami League remains in power; however, no opposition party won them when BNP was in power.
Sheikh Hasina held out her hope that the ruling alliance will come to power again through the next general elections due early next year. “The 14-party alliance will return to power under the leadership of Awami League as the people know very well as to who they will have to vote for in the next poll,” Hasina said.
BSS adds: Sheikh Hasina, also president of Bangladesh Awami League, presided over the meeting while Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, AL presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, MP, and AL Joint Secretary Mahbub ul Alam Hanif spoke, among others, on the occasion.
Leaders of the partners of the grand alliance government-president of Samyabadi Dal and industries minister Dilip Barua, general secretary of Bangladesh Workers Party Anisur Rahman Mallik, general secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Sharif Nurul Ambia, also took part in the discussion.
Awami League could compel the last caretaker government to declare election and handover power to an elected government. But, it would not be possible on part of the BNP to realize
the election from the caretaker government, Sheikh Hasina said.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh would again be turned into a breeding ground of terrorists and militants if BNP and Jamaat can capture the power like 2001.
The country would again enter the dark age if the thefts, money launderers, patrons of terrorists and militants and killers of Ivy Rahman, SAMS Kibria and Ahasanullah Master can come to power,
the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister condemned the BNP, Jamaat and some self-styled Islamic organizations for spreading falsehood about the death toll in police action to disperse unruly Hefajat protesters from Shapla Square on May 5 last.
Sheikh Hasina urged the party workers to make people aware about the conspiracy of the BNP and anti-liberation force to foil the country’s progress and prosperity and said the grand alliance would take part in the next election and win the people’s support to retain power.
