Former assistant coach of England Richard Halsall has joined the Bangladesh cricket team as a fielding consultant for the West Indies tour, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Thursday. Halsall, 46, accepted the BCB’s offer to undertake the responsibility of a fielding specialist for the series and has already reached the West Indies to join up with the Bangladesh side,’ said a BCB statement.
The BCB hoped Halsall will join as permanent fielding coach once his current contract with England expires in October.
Halsall performed the role of England cricket team’s assistant coach from 2011 to 2014. From 1998 to 2006 he had held the position at Sussex county cricket club as its fielding coach and he was England’s fielding coach from 2008- 2010.
He was the fielding coach of England during the tenure of Andy Flower. When Flower stepped down as the head coach of England and Peter Moores took over the charge, his role was changed.
A former first-class cricketer and a Cambridge Blue, Halsall has also coached the England Under-15 side in 2006-07 and led the England national team to a 1-1 series away in India in 2012.
