Film actress Naznin Akther Happy said on Sunday that she will withdraw the case against national cricketer Rubel Hossain if he agrees to marry her. Happy filed a case at Mirpur police station against Rubel on Saturday, alleging the cricketer of ‘rape’ and a ‘false promise of marriage’,
She alleged that Rubel has backed away from the pledge despite they had an intimate affair for months.
Police took the case under the women and child repression act and kept her at the victim-protection centre in Tejgaon overnight before sending her at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for forensic test.
Happy returned to Mirpur police station in the afternoon when she spoke to media saying that she would happily withdraw the case if Rubel keeps his promise.
Happy alleged that Rubel was threatening her that she won’t be able to do anything by filing case as he had connections with some influential people.
She said that they were having an affair for more than nine months after being introduced by a friend.
‘I have also left media after being promised by Rubel that we will get married,’ she said.
She accused Rubel of cheating, saying that he also had established physical intimacy with other girls while having an affair with her.
Happy made her debut in film in September 2013 with Kichu Asha Bhalobasa (Some hopes, some loves) where she played the role of supporting heroine.
Officials at forensic department said that they have taken X-ray to examine her actual age, some psychical symptom, blood and saliva to conduct DNA test.
The authority has also formed a three-member medical board to conduct the forensic test of the actress, said Professor Habibuzzaman Chowdhury, head of forensic medicine department of the DMCH.
The committee was asked to submit the report within 10 working days.
The other members of the committee are — associate professor of the department AKM Shafiuzzaman, medical officer Monika Khandokar and Nuzhat Andalib.
Speaking to reporters in Mirpur, Happy said that she felt cheated when she saw another woman with Rubel.
Earlier on Saturday, Happy said some cricketers, including one-day international captain Mashrafee bin Murtaza, Rubel’s new-ball partner Shafiul Islam and batsman Nasir Hossain spoke to her and promised a solution only for Rubel to back away.
Rubel, who lives alone in his apartment at sixth floor near Dhaka Commerce College in Mirpur, could not be reached for comments. He also gave his Sunday’s Dhaka Premier League match for Legends of Rupganj against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club a miss.
Masud Parvez, sub-inspector of Mirpur model police station and investigation officer of the case, said that they have taken Happy from her Rupnagar home to Tejgaon for security reasons and would keep her there for some days.
‘It is a national issue, so the investigation is also going on very sensitively,’ he said. ‘Once we get the medical report of Happy, we would also conduct the DNA test of cricketer Rubel, who is now under our surveillance.’
Rubel has so far played 22 Tests to bag 32 wickets. The fast bowler also bagged 69 wickets in 53 one-day international matches. He was part of Bangladesh Team in the recent series win against Zimbabwe.
