Solo painting exhibition at Gallery Impressions
A solo painting exhibition featuring artworks by talented artist Abu Kalam Shamsuddin was inaugurated at Gallery Impressions, Gulshan, in the capital on July 17.
The exhibition showcases 16 paintings titled as “Harmony of Nature” (1, 2, 3…16) by the artist. The artist has used mixed media (oil and acrylic). The displayed paintings are of two sizes (24 x24 cm and 24 x 20 cm).
The main theme of the paintings is based on the artist’s experiences with and passion for nature which he loves to explore. Consequently, he has picked colours, forms and lines from nature in making compositions of his own. The exhibition, in a word, is an attempt to be the eye-opener of impressionistic domain of art.
“For me, painting is the manifestation of life. I try to blend elements of nature and my inner feelings in the making of my paintings. I think artwork has a secret language of its own. I can make something, but once it is out of my hand…that is where the viewers come in, and from then on, it is all about making it ‘together’ that share the language. Art must engross absolute obsession, passion and commitment –where all my inspiration zooms in,” said the artist.
Abu Kalam Shamsuddin completed both his BFA (Hons) and MFA (in Drawing and Painting Group) from the department of Fine Arts of Rajshahi University in 2006 and 2008 respectively securing first class in both the examinations. Aside from participating in several group art exhibitions and workshops, the artist showcased his first solo art exhibition at Darbar Hall, Rajshahi in 2006. He currently works as a lecturer at the department of Graphic Design and Multimedia of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology.
