The High Court (HC) on Monday directed the jail authorities to provide division facilities to the Secretary of rights organisation Adhikar Adilur Rahman Khan in prison.
In response to a writ petition, the vacation bench of the HC comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed also issued a rule asking the government to explain why Adilur should not be provided with division. The home secretary, the inspector general of prisons and the deputy commissioner of Dhaka have been made respondents to reply to the rule.
Dr Saira Rahman, Adilur’s wife, filed the petition with the HC seeking division facilities in prison for her husband considering his education, social status and living standard as per the jail code.
Supreme Court Bar Association President AJ Mohammad Ali, Advocate M Asaduzzaman and Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury appeared for the accused during the hearing of the petition.
