The High Court on Wednesday extended its earlier order for three months that granted bail to BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman in connection with two cases.
The HC extended his bail in two cases—one extortion case and one tax evasion case—-which were filed during the last caretaker government. A vacation bench of the HC comprising Justice M Moazzem Hossain and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain passed the order after hearing on two separate petitions filed by the BNP leader.
Barrister Nazmul Huda appeared for the petitioner.
Businessman Aftabuddin had filed the extortion cases with Gulshan Police Station.
On March 27, 2007, Aftabuddin, the owner of Reza Construction, had filed the case with Gulshan Police Station against Tarique and several others on charges of extorting Tk 80 lakh from him on different occasions.
