The High Court on Monday stayed for three months a decision of Bangladesh Football Federation that fined Arambagh Krira Sangha Tk 30 lakh over their involvement in vandalising in the federation office on December 22. A bench of Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice Md Khasruzzaman also issued a rule on the BFF and the authorities concerned to explain the legality of fine in two weeks.
The bench passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Arambagh general secretary
Azaz Md Jahangir, challenging the legality of imposing the fine.
Petitioner’s lawyer Shah Md Munir Sharif told the court that the BFF in a letter issued on December 31 illegally fined Arambagh Tk 30
lakh for the vandalism although police was investigating a case over the matter.
In the letter, BFF said the club will have to pay the fine by January 5. Otherwise, the club will be suspended for one year, the letter warned.
A group of unruly Arambagh fans attacked BFF house after their 3-2 loss to Bangladesh Police in their Bangladesh Championship League match on December 22.
