Speakers tell seminar
Speakers at a seminar on Wednesday called for a healthy relation between the employers and the employees to avoid labour unrest.
‘Sometimes lack of communication between the employees and the employers gives birth to unexpected incidents like labour unrest,’ said Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Md Sabur Khan at the seminar jointly organised by DCCI and Bangladesh Society for Human Resource Management at the chamber’s conference room in the city.
Maintaining a good employer-employee relationship is a pre-requisite for organisational success, high productivity and human satisfaction, he said.
He stressed sharing of ideas between the employers and the employees to reduce the gap between the two parties.
‘Establishing trade unions in the industrial units and organisations is necessary but those should be free from politics,’ he said.
Former DCCI president Asif Ibrahim called on the government to provide unused land and money to relocate unsafe factories.
‘The banks should come forward to finance factories to facilitate their infrastructure development activities,’ he said.
The speakers at the seminar said the government should provide the industries with logistic and financial support to develop a better relation between the employers and the employees.
Expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said establishment of trade union would safeguard interests of both the employees and the employers.
He said the government at its 38 training centres had been providing training to those who were interested to go abroad.
He also stressed development of skills and knowledge of the labour force.
Bangladesh Employers’ Federation president Fazlul Hoque said the employers should take the initiative to reduce the gap between the two parties.
BSHRM president Md Musharrof Hussain presented the keynote paper at the seminar. His paper highlighted that a good employer- employee relation ensures better productivity, turnover and competitiveness.
DCCI senior vice-president Nessar Maksud Khan and vice-president Absar Karim Chowdhury were also present on the occasion.
