A mild heatwave set in again on Saturday with chances of it continuing and intensifying in parts of Bangladesh over the next couple of days, according to the Met Office.
The cyclonic circulation formed in the Bay of Bengal, likely to develop into a low pressure with potentials of a cyclonic storm, is influencing the high land temperature, said weather forecasters.
Meteorologist Abdul Alim pointed out that, ‘The temperature will certainly rise over the next two days.’
The meteorological department in India predicted an intensification of the cyclonic circulation into a cyclonic storm by May 11, with chances of its making landfall in the Myanmar coast between May 13 and 14.
On Saturday, Bangladesh’s highest maximum temperature of 37.5C was recorded in Chuadanga, up from 35C the day before, according to the Bangladesh Met Office.
A mild heatwave occurs when the maximum temperature ranges between 36C and 37.9C over a large area.
The mild heatwave was sweeping over Madaripur, Narayanganj, Pabna, Bogura, Rangpur, DInajpur, Nilphamari, Moulvibazar, Chandpur, Feni, Khulna, Jashore and Paruakhali, the Met Office said.
Dhaka’s temperature also rose from 35C on Friday to 35.8C on Saturday; scattered rain might occur at places but overall the next few days would be hotter and drier, it added.
A massive heatwave with record temperature exceeding 40C exhausted almost entire Bangladesh through the second half of Ramadan from April 5.
The heatwave continued over two weeks and began again after a brief break of less than a week.
May is the final month of a three-month pre-monsoon season, prone to heatwave.
