A heat wave that has been sweeping the country will continue for a week, the met office said yesterday.
The northern region is the worst hit by heat wave, as the mercury rose up to 41 degree Celsius in Rajshahi and its adjoining areas yesterday.
The met office said the maximum temperature in Dhaka yesterday was 35.8 degree Celsius.
High humidity and frequent power cuts made life even more difficult in the capital.
“There is less traffic in city streets in the afternoon, as people do not want to go out in this scorching heat,” said traffic sergeant Atiqur Rahman, who was on duty at the Sonargaon Hotel intersection.
The met office said Rajshahi, Pabna and Kustia would experience a severe heat wave for the next few days, while a mild to moderate heat wave would continue to sweep Bogra, Rangpur, Syedpur, Dinajpur, Khulna, Mongla, Satkhira, Jessore, Tangail and Faridpur.
Temperature may remain unchanged day and night across the country, and some areas may receive rainfall today, said the met office.
