Environmentalists urge PM
Environmentalists at a rally yesterday sought the prime minister’s intervention in saving the city’s playgrounds by removing concrete structures built on them.
Lauding the prime minister’s recent instructions to recover city playgrounds from grabbers, the speakers said the government’s goodwill to help develop the mental and physical health of the future generations has given hope to the dwellers.
The programme was organised by Paribesh Shammata Bashjagga Dhaka Bastabayan Parishad on the road beside Dhanmondi playground in the city, said a press release.
At the rally, moderated by Citizens’ Rights Movement Secretary General Tusher Rehman, they termed open spaces and playgrounds “heart” of the city.
Building brick structures on a few rare playgrounds would be harmful for the environment of the city. Such structures would dampen sports and recreational activities, they said.
The speakers urged the prime minister to take stern actions so that no structure is built on the playgrounds in the city
Nirapad Development Foundation Chairman Ibnul Syed Rana, Engineer Mohammad Enamul Haque and Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (Bapa) Joint Secretary Sharif Jamil, among others, also spoke.
