Prices of other fishes go up
The price of Hilsa has increased in the city kitchen markets compared to that of the previous week’s price while the price of all kinds of vegetables has been stable. At the Palassey, and New Market kitchen markets, a pair of medium-sized Hilsa was sold for Tk 1300-1500 on Friday, compared to the Tk 1000 in the previous week. The price of other kinds of fish has also increased on Friday compared to the previous week’s price in the kitchen markets. Fish sellers said, the price of all kinds of fish has increased due to the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
A fish merchant Saidul Mia told The Independent that a large number of home bound people are going back to their respective areas. Therefore, the wholesalers are mostly selling Hilsa to the rural areas. Thus, its price has increased due to its inadequate supply in the city’s kitchen markets.
The consumers alleged that the price of Hilsha has increased significantly compared to the previous week’s price. The government has banned the export of Hilsa, but its price has increased in the kitchen markets, they added.
They also said, the price of Hilsa decreased in the kitchen markets last week after the ban on its export. There is no adequate supply of Hilsa in the retail markets this week, they added.
The price of vegetables has been stable on Friday. Bitter gourd was retailed at Tk 40 per kg, unchanged from its previous week’s price, the price of brinjal decreased by Tk 5 per kg, retailing at Tk 30 per kg on Friday.
Lentil was sold at Tk 120 per kg on Friday, unchanged from its previous week’s price. The price of onion and eggs remained steady at Tk 32-36 per kg and Tk 36 for four, respectively.
Loose soyabean oil was sold at Tk 135 per litre, unchanged from the previous week’s price. Branded soyabean oil’s price was stable against last week’s price.
In the retail markets, aromatic rice was being sold at Tk 100 per kg on Friday. Miniket rice was sold at Tk 34-35 per kg in the retail markets. Nazirshail rice was sold at Tk 42-45 per kg on Friday, unchanged from its previous week’s price. Broiler chicken was sold at Tk 165 per kg on Friday while it was sold at the same price last week. Beef was being sold for Tk 270 per kg, while mutton was retailed at Tk 450 per kg.
