The Bangladesh Hockey Federation on Monday suspended the national team camp for two days after nearly half of the players of 42-man preliminary squad for under-21 AHF Cup and South Asian Games refused to train. A total of 20 hockey players sent a letter to the federation earlier on Sunday saying that they will not attend the camp unless players’ transfer date for next Dhaka Premier League is announced.
The BHF could not hold the league for nearly two years as five clubs, including local giants Mohammedan Sporting Club and Dhaka Mariner Young’s, have been boycotting all competitions under current general secretary Khaja Rahamatullah.
The BHF discussed the matter on Monday evening but could not make any decision. Rahmatullah said the working committee of the federation will discuss the matter again on Thursday.
‘We have postponed the camp for Tuesday and Wednesday. The working committee will sit on Thursday and take the final decision regarding the national team camp,’ Rahmatullah told reporters.
Rahmatullah added that a decision regarding players’ transfer and league could be taken during federation’s next governing body meeting, which will be held once its president Air Marshal Abu Esrar returns from abroad.
