The revolting hockey players ended their boycott and joined the national camp for the forthcoming Asia Cup as 24 players from a 33-member preliminary squad reported to coach Mahbub Harun as the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan on Monday.
A 10-day conditioning camp got underway without Russell Mahmud Jimmy and Moshiur Rahman Biplob who are now busy with the domestic league in Germany, informed Mahbub before disclosing that the duo are expected to join the camp on June 30.
Five players from Bangladesh Navy – Mamunur
Rahman Chayan, Tapash Barman, Krishna Kumar, Belal Ahmed and Monwar Hossain Russell are yet to be released by their force while two players from Bangladesh Army – Abdul Malek and Rokonuzzaman Shohag are also yet to be discharged.
Mahbub stated that they are expected to join the camp on June 19 or 20. ‘After the second round of the World Hockey League, the players were out of the field so initially we will start with a conditioning camp where we will mainly concentrate on the players’ fitness,’ said Mahbub to reporters over the phone.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Hockey Federation is desperately looking for a foreign coach for the national team and the officials are hopeful that an Indian or a Pakistani coach will be recruited as soon as possible as they are in discussions with three coaches at the moment.
