National hockey players will meet with Ahad Ali Sarkar, the state minister for youth and sports, today seeking his assistance in resolving the current crisis.
The Bangladesh Hockey Federation postponed the inter-club players’ transfer on Sunday, prolonging the uncertainty despite a clear promise made by the officials to hold it.
The players had earlier boycotted the Asia Cup camp and started their training only after BHF president Air Marshal Enamul Bari assured them the transfers would be held from July 2-4.
The players gathered at the Maulana Bhaasani National Hockey Stadium on
Monday after the latest postponement and Rasel Khan Bappi, the president of the Players’ Welfare Association, told reporters that they decided to draw the attention of the state minister to this matter.
‘The BHF president gave us his word to look after our interests but he failed to do so, so we will meet the state minister to seek his intervention in
resolving the whole crisis,’ said Bappi after the meeting.
Asaduzzaman Chandan, national team defender, said they will meet the state minister to inform him about the actual situation and will also request him not to give control to the newly-elected committee in the greater interests of hockey.
The players said they took this stand as six clubs said they will not participate in any activities under the new committee, which was elected under controversial circumstances.
Meanwhile, the national team’s newly-appointed Pakistani coach, Naveed Alam, arrived in Dhaka on Monday and will take charge of the team amid this uncertainty.
