The Bangladesh Hockey Federation on Thursday cut down the number of preliminary squad members to 40 ahead of the Asian Games qualifiers in March.
The original preliminary squad consisted of 65 players, who all trained under the supervision of the national team’s Pakistani coach Naveed Alam from December 25 to January 4.
The 40-member squad will now start training from Saturday at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium.
BHF member and selector Rafiqul Islam Kamal notified that from the 40-member squad, a number of players will miss the start of the training camp.
‘Among 40 players, some eight to 10 members will miss the training camp as they are playing in the ongoing league,’ said Kamal adding that, ‘Once the league ends on February 10, the rest of the players will join the camp. Having said that, we will urge the clubs to release the players with the exception of the days when they have matches in the ongoing premier league.’
