The holy Eid-ul Fitr, the greatest religious festival of the Muslims will be celebrated across the country with due solemnity and religious fervour tomorrow (Monday) if the shawal moon is sighted today (Sunday). However, if the moon is not sighted today, Eid-ul- Fitr will be celebrated on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, people from all walks of life are engaged in last moment preparations for the celebration of the festival. Three-day official Eid holidays from September 20 to 22 have already been declared. The holidays will be extended by one day if the Eid-ul-Fitr falls on September 22.
In the city, people are busy completing their last minute shopping and thousands are still streaming to the villages to celebrate the Eid with their relatives there. This has become a long-standing social custom and tradition in the country.
Meanwhile, the stage is now almost set for smooth holding of Eid prayers in the city and elsewhere. The main congregation in the capital will be held at the National Eidgah near the Supreme Court Building. At the Eid congregation prayers will be offered seeking the divine blessings of the almighty Allah for the peace and prosperity of the Muslims Ummah.
President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasin and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Begum Khaleda Zia have issued separate Eid messages wishing happiness of the people and prosperity of the country.
UNB adds: the National Moon-sighting Committee will sit at the Islamic Foundation auditorium at 7:30 pm tomorrow (Sunday) to scour the sky for Shawal moon, with State Minister for Religious Affairs and president of the committee Adv Md Shahjahan Mia in the chair. Dhaka City corporation sources said all preparations are nearly complete for holding the main Eid congregation at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises.
Dhaka City Corporation will organize a total of 362 eid congregations, including the main one at the National Eidgah at 9am.
Five Eid congregations will be held at Baitul Mokarram National Mosque at 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am and 12noon.
Besides, more Eid congregations would be held at all major mosques, Eidgahs and open spaces in the city as elsewhere across the country. The country’s biggest Eid congregation will be held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj.
President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia and other political leaders have issued separate messages felicitating the countrymen and the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid.
The national flag will be hoisted atop government and non-government offices on the occasion. Main city streets will be decorated with flags imprinted with ‘Eid Mubarak’ in Bengali and Arabic. Eid will also be celebrated in Bangladesh missions abroad under the government-arranged programmes.
