Kyle Hope’s unbeaten 214 helped the visiting West Indies High Performance unit take a commanding position against SAHARA-BCB Academy before rain halted the second day’s play of the four-day match in Khulna on Monday. Hope converted his overnight century into a double ton as West Indies HP unit piled up a massive 521 for the loss of eight wickets before rain started pouring in during the lunch break at the Sheikh Abu Naser stadium. The heavy rains continued and eventually play was called off at 3:20pm.
The visitors resumed the day at 394-5 and lost an early wicket when left-arm spinner Shakir Ahmed dismissed Carlos Brathwaite (eight) in the fourth over of the day. Shakir struck once again to claim his fourth victim and reduce the HP unit to 421-7.
Hope then added 94 runs with number nine Permaul Verasammy (42) as they extended their first innings score.
The 23-year-old Hope, who had only a first-class fifty to his name, struck 19 fours and two sixes during his maiden double century.
Earlier on day one, West Indies HP unit opener Andre Fletcher slammed 105, while middle-order batsman Keddy Lesporis missed his century after he was out on 97.
