For a few years now, Hotmail users have been able to use an alternative email address to unlock their account if its been hacked or if their password has been lost or forgotten.
With additional security questions at hand too, Hotmail’s security features have helped many users out of losing access to their email or loss of information. But Hotmail has still had its fair share of ‘cyber-criminal’ problems’ and the like.
Now though, security for the email client has been bolstered. The user can now register a mobile telephone number, which allows the user to receive a special code via SMS to unlock their account and reset their password.
As well as this, the addition of being able to create a ‘Trusted Computer’ (in much the same vein as authorising computers with iTunes) will allow users to register their computer with Hotmail so that if the computer is used, Hotmail will recognise and trust the communication between it and the computer itself and allows the user to reset their password this way too.
