The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh is going to organise a three-day housing fair in the port city of Chittagong starting from January 29 with a heightened expectation of a brisk business.
The announcement came at a news conference held by the real estate and housing association at the National Press Club on Saturday.
Speaking at the press conference, REHAB president Tanveerul Haque said 68 stalls of different housing and land developers based in both Dhaka and Chittagong will be set up in the fair which is third of its kind in Chittagong. This time the fair will be held on Chittagong Club ground.
Shipping minister Afsarul Amin is expected to inaugurate the fair while Chittagong Development Authority chairman Shah Mohammed Akhteruddin will be present as chief guest, Haque said.
Asian Lands Development Ltd, Asset Developments and Holdings Ltd, Bio Properties Ltd, Concord Real Estate and Building Products Ltd, East West Property Development (Private) Ltd, Equity Property Management Ltd, Mismak Developments Ltd, Navana Real Estate Ltd and Sanmar Properties Ltd are the nine co-sponsors of the fair.
The fair will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00am with the prices of tickets at Tk 20 for a single entry and Tk 50 for multiple entries.
The REHAB president said the money earned from the tickets would be spent on the social welfare-oriented purposes.
The concluding ceremony will be held on February 1 with industries minister Dilip Barua as chief guest.
They REHAB leaders expect the transaction of the fair would be around Tk 400 crore. In response to a question, the REHAB president said such kind of fair would be held in other cities of the country gradually.
As the REHAB president was asked why they were not reducing prices in the wake of the fall of prices of different construction materials, Haque claimed, ‘The prices of flat remain static although the taka has experienced several devaluations.’
Among others, REHAB general secretary Khaled Mohammad Jewel Mollah, chairman of the Chittagong Fair Standing Committee Murad Iqbal Chowdhury, convener of the fair Kazi Aynul Hoque and REHAB vice-president Syed Nazrul Islam were present.
