The results of the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations of 2021 were published on Sunday with a pass rate of 95.26 per cent.
The number of students securing GPA 5 is 1,89,169.
The results were officially announced by the prime minister Sheikh Hasina virtually from the Ganabhaban while later in a press briefing the education minister present the results at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital at about 12:00pm.
This year out of 14,03,244 examinees, 13,06,718 passed the exams.
Under nine general boards out of total 11,40,680 examinees 10,66,242 or 95.57 per cent passed the exams while 1,78,522 secured GPA 5.
Under the madrassah education board 1,13,167 took the exams while 1,01,768 or 95.49 per cent passed and 4,872 secured the GPA 5.
Under technical education board out of total 1,49,397 examinees 1,38,708 or 92.85 per cent passed and 5,775 secured GPA 5.
The 2020 HSC and equivalent examinees were given grade point average using the subject mapping method based on their results in the Secondary School Certificate, Junior School Certificate and equivalent examinations.
In 2020 all 13,67,377 examinees or 100 per cent students passed the exams while 1,61,807 secured GPA 5.
In 2019, the combined pass rate was 73.93 per cent and the number of students securing GPA 5 was 47,286.
This year HSC and equivalent examinations were held between December 2, 2021 and December 30, 2021 across Bangladesh, after a gap of one year as the examinations were not held in 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Despite the Covid pandemic, the number of HSC and equivalent examinees this year has increased by 33,901 from 13,65,789 in 2020, according to the ministry.
In 2020, the SSC, JSC and equivalent examinations were held in a regular manner.
Earlier, the government kept all educational institutions shut for more than one and a half years from March 18, 2020 to check the outbreak of the Covid-19.
Later, in-person classes at schools, colleges and equivalent institutions resumed on September 12, 2021.
A circular issued by the Cabinet Division on January 20 this year said that schools, colleges and their equivalent educational institutions across the country would remain closed between January 21 and February 6 to contain a further surge in Covid-19 infections.
The government on February 2 announced an extension of the closure of educational institutions by two more weeks.
