On an average, 74.30 per cent students have passed in the HSC and equivalent madrasa, vocational and DIBS examinations held under 10 education boards. Last year 78.67 per cent students passed in the HSC examinations. As many as 1,002,496 examinees from 7,657 educational institutions appeared in the examinations, of whom 744,891 students succeeded in the exams. Last year 917,673 students had appeared in the exams.
A total of 58,197 candidates scored maximum grade point average (GPA)-5 this year, while 51,469 students had got GPA-5 last year.
The success rate in Dhaka board is 74.04 per cent; while, in Sylhet, it is 79.13 per cent; in Chittagong, it is 61.22 per cent; in Comilla, 61.29 per cent; in Jessore, 67.49 per cent; in Barisal, 71.69 per cent; in Rajshahi, 77.69 per cent; in Dinajpur, 71.94 per cent; in Madrasah, 91.46 per cent; and in Technical, 85.03per cent.
Putting the blame on the Opposition-sponsored hartals for the poor results, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid, on Saturday, said: “We had to change dates for 32 subjects, due to the opposition’s hartal. The frequent change in dates affected the students terribly. The opposition and its ally had called nine-day hartal during the HSC exams, and this is the major reason for poor results.” Nahid was speaking to reporters, while releasing the HSC results at the secretariat. He urged all political parties not to hold political programmes during public exams.
A total of 263,426 students appeared in this year’s HSC exam under the Dhaka Education Board, and 195,045 students succeeded. Of them, 98,544 boys and 96,501 girl students passed in the exam. Of the 1,05,072 students under Rajshahi Board, 81,631 students passed the HSC exam.

A total of  87,474 students appeared in the Madrasa Education Board, and 80,002 students passed in Alim examination. The success rate was 91.46 per cent.
While 95,984 students appeared in the exam under the Technical Education Board, 81,617 of them passed, and the success rate was 85.03 per cent.
A total of 4,569 students appeared in the exam under Diploma in Business Studies (DIBS) and 3,975 students cleared the test.
Claiming credit for publishing the results within 60 days after the completion of the exams, Nahid said: “A total of 30 crore books will be distributed free among 3.70 crore students next year. We have also trained five lakh teachers to teach modern education.” He also urged the parties to be more responsible in holding political programmes.
He added: “Even though indiscipline has prevailed in the education sector for a long time, the present government was able to enforce discipline in the education sector and improved the quality of education in the country.”
The candidates can also get their result by sending SMS to number 16222 with text ‘HSC’, followed by space, then the first 3 letters of the respective education board, followed by space again, and then the roll number.
In 2012, 78.67 per cent examinees had cleared the HSC and equivalent examinations, and 61,162 students had got GPA-5 grades.
Exams for 32 subjects were rescheduled this year, due to strikes and political turmoil. Normal life was disrupted due to cyclone Mahasen and the Boards had to face problems in getting answer scripts evaluated.
A total of 164 students appeared in the HSC exams in five overseas centres. Of them, 148 students succeeded and 32 students got GPA-5.
The exams had begun on April 1, with 1,012,581 students registered to take it. Education secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chairpersons of different education boards, and senior officials of the ministry, were present on the occasion.
