With prayers for a quick recovery of litterateur Humayun Ahmed, the 63rd birth anniversary of the celebrated writer was observed in and outside of the country yesterday. The iconic writer-dramatist-filmmaker is now in New York for his colon cancer treatment, celebrated his 63rd birth anniversary amidst his friends and family in the USA.
To mark the birth anniversary of Humayun Ahmed, leading publication houses of the country have arranged a 7-day long book fair featuring his books on the premises of Central Public Library in Shahbagh, Dhaka.
The fair was inaugurated yesterday by Ayesha Faiz, mother of the author. She graced the programme as chief guest.
The inaugural session of the fair was attended, among others, by reciter Kazi Arif, Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Channel i; Sirajul Kabir Chowdhury Kamol, managing editor of fortnightly Anyadin; Mazharul Islam, CEO of publication house Anyaprokash; cultural personalites like Nawazish Ali Khan and Abu Saleh.
The event began with the welcome speech of Faruk Ahmed, publisher of Somoy Prokashoni. He delivered his speech about the publication houses of the country.
Cartoonist-author Ahsan Habib, also younger brother of the writer, attended the event and spoke on this occasion.
The speakers at the event requested all to pray for Humayun Ahmed for his quick recovery and expected his company in the upcoming Ekushey Book Fair in 2012.
On the occasion, Humayun Ahmed’s latest work Rangpencil was unveiled by his mother Ayesh Faiz through a book launching ceremony.
The book fair will also feature cultural programmes including recitation, story-telling, staging street plays and others.
The fair is open from 13 to 19 November (From 10:30am to 8:00pm).
