Humayun Ahmed as a writer evaluated
The vacuum created by the death of Humayun Ahmed in the literary arena of the country cannot be fulfilled, observed renowned critics at the inauguration ceremony of the weeklong book fair on the Central Public
Library premise on Wednesday.
The fair featuring iconic writer Humayun Ahmed’s books has been organised jointly by 16 publishers of Humayun’s books marking the writer’s 65th birth anniversary.
Three new books were also launched at the programme including the seventh edition of collection of Humayun’s novels, a collection of the Himu series and a Humayun’s juvenile novel, which earlier had been published in a Bangla daily newspaper.
Professor emeritus Anissuzaman was present at the programme as chief guest. Director general of bangle Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan, Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, managing director of Impress Telefilm Faridur Reza Sagar, Humayun Ahmed’s widow Meher Afroz Shaon, among others were present at the inauguration programme.
In his speech, professor emeritus Anissuzaman evaluated Humayun as a peerless writer in terms of spontaneity found in his narratives of urban middleclass. ‘A vacuum has been created in the literary arena by his death,’ said professor Anisuzzaman demanding the completion of Humayun’s unfinished works.
Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, on the other, analysed Humayun as a close observer of the society.
Selim Chowdhury presented the song Chandni posor e ke amay saran korey from Humayun Ahmed’s film Chandrakotha at the programme.
Humayun Ahmed’s books titled Humayun Ahmed Rachanaboli 07, Himu 10 and Kakaru were launched.
Following the launching ceremony, Humayun Ahmed’s last film Ghetu Putra Kamola was screened at the auditorium of the National Museum.
Meher Afroz Shaon was present as the chief guest at the film screening.
From the second day onwards, the cultural programme will include different presentations of music, poem recitations and street theatre.
