Today is the 66th birth anniversary of legendary author, dramatist, screenwriter, playwright and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed. Different socio-cultural organisations have organised different programmes to mark the occasion. Television channels have also chalked out special programmes in celebration of the day. Bangladesh National Museum has organised a 15-day exhibition featuring photographs, manuscripts and personal belongings of Humayun Ahmed. Besides, the exhibition also showcases paintings made by the legend. The exhibition was inaugurated by minister of cultural affairs Asaduzzaman Noor on Wednesday. Dr Gowhar Rizvi, international affairs advisor to the prime minister was also present at the inauguration.
Channel i has organised a day-long fair and cultural programme at the channel’s premises at Tejgaon in the capital. The fair will feature stalls selling Humayun Ahmed’s books and DVDs of his teleplays and films. Besides, a discussion session will also be held in the programme. The fair is scheduled to start at 11:05am and will continue till 5:00pm.
Cultural organisation Shilpit organised a recitation programme in memory of Humayun Ahmed at the seminar hall of Central Public Library in the capital. Nawazish Ali Khan, head of programme of ATN Bangla, was present at the programme as chief guest. Besides, the programme was also attended by cultural personality Syed Hasan Imam, eminent recitation artiste Jayanta Chattapadhyay, noted cartoonist and also younger brother of Ahmed Ahsan Habib, and others.
Almost all the television channels have designed special programmes on Humayun Ahmed. Banglavision will air talk show Sokal Belar Roddur at 11:00am today. Noted actors Jayanta Chattapadhyay and Munira Mithu will share their memories with Humayun Ahmed at the programme. RTV will also telecast a talk show at 10:40am today where the actors who worked with Ahmed will talk on his life and work. Maasranga TV will air musical programme titled O Amar Uralponkhi-re at 5:02pm today. Hosted by Ahmed’s widow Meher Afroz shaon, the programme will feature presentation of the songs written by Humayun Ahmed by noted singers SI Tutul and Subir Nandi. ATN Bangla will air a programme titled Chandni Posor at 9:15am today. The programme will feature discussion sessions and presentation of Ahmed’s songs.
Born at Kutubpur in Netrakona district, Humayun Ahmed (November 13, 1948 – July 19, 2012) is credited with about 200 fictions. He swayed the readers and publishing industry in Bangladesh for over four decades. He was also a distinguished dramatist, teleplay maker and film maker. His first television drama was Ei Shob Din Ratri, followed by Bohubrihi, Ayomoy, Kothao Keu Nei.
Shonkhonil Karagar is the first film made by Humayun Ahmed. Later, he also directed Aguner Parashmoni, Srabon Megher Din, Dui Duari, Shyamol Chhaya and other notable films. Ghetuputra Kamola was the last film directed by Humayun Ahmed.
Humayun Ahmed received numerous awards including Lekhak Shibir Prize (1973), Bangla Academy Award (1981), Shishu Academy Award, Jainul Abedin Gold Medal, Michael Madhusudan Medal (1987), Bacsas Prize (1988), Humayun Qadir Memorial Prize (1990), National Film Award (Best Story 1993, Best Film 1994, Best Dialogue 1994), Ekushe Podok (1994) and others.
