Iconic writer Humayun Ahmed’s widow Meher Afroz Shaon plans to make films on Humayun’s two novels.
She is planning to start making a film in next January based on either of the two novels Nirbason and Gouripur Junction.
She also plans to make a serial based on Humayun Ahmed’s one of the most popular novels Joystna O Jananir Galpo. In addition, Shaon hopes to make a documentary on the life and works of Humayun Ahmed, the most popular contemporary writer, a trendsetter TV playwright and a successful filmmaker.
‘Humayun Ahmed himself thought of making films with his novels Nirbason and Gouripur Junction, and he completed a screenplay based on Nirbason. Shibabrata Burman is writing the screenplay based on Humayun’s novel Gouripur Junction,’ Meher Afroz Shaon told New Age.
Nirbason is based on the war of independence while Gouripur Junction features an off-beat story based on the people living near a railway junction in Mymensingh.
‘Both of the novels attract me and I’m confident of making good films based on the novels. But, I haven’t decided on the novel I’ll start my works,’ Shaon said.
But, she said that she had started the work for making a drama serial based on Joystna O Jananir Galpo, another novel based on the war of independence.
‘It’s a big challenge to bring such a popular novel on small screen. But, I’m confident in taking up the challenge,’ she said.
‘I’ve not yet made any contract with the TV channels,’ she added.
Shaon further said that she plans to make a documentary on Humayun Ahmed. ‘I took photographs and videos of Humayun Ahmed’s personal life with which I will make a documentary to share his personal life with the millions of Humayun’s fans. I will also use the photographs and video footages if there are any with his friends,’ Shaon said.
Meher Afroz Shaon has made a teleplay based on Humayun Ahmed’s story titled Jadukar, which Channel i will air today at 7:30pm as part of the channel’s daylong Humayun Mela programme marking the 65th birth anniversary of the writer.
Shaon will also attend other special TV shows to be aired today in different other channels.
