Shatabdi Wadud tells New Age
‘Be it silver screen or a television production, I sign up only for projects with good storylines,’ said popular actor Shatabdi Wadud, who is currently engaged in three mediums- theatre, TV and film.
The selective actor said that the viewers would see him in diverse characters in nine teleplays that will be aired on different channels in the upcoming Eid. ‘Though I got a pool of offers, I chose only a few,’ said Wadud.
The artiste claims that he enjoyed working in the plays directed by young, talented makers like Golam Sohrab Dodul, Anjon Aich, Mahmud Didar and Jayanta Rosario. ‘One of the remarkable plays this Eid will be Golam Sohrab Dodul’s Ekti Aporadh Bisoyok Kalpona, which is an adaptation from noted writer Zafar Iqbal’s short story bearing the same title. The play will feature confessions of the sins committed by four friends on a full moon night at the bank of a river,’ he said.
‘I don’t want to be a hero neither I look for a character that has long duration appearance. I prefer characters that are challenging and difficult to enact,’ he added.
Shatabdi Wadud, who got the national film award in the anti hero category for his debut appearance in Nasiruddin Yousuff’s national award winning film Guerrilla also informed New Age that he played the protagonists in three films, which will be released soon.
‘I hope viewers will enjoy my performances in Razzaq’s Ayna Kahini, Tanvir Mokammel’s Jiban Dhuli, Azizur Azim Tito’s Payra,’ he expressed.
Wadud further said that he prefers acting in films over teleplays. ‘Films have huge canvases which highly appeal to me. Moreover, it has a long lasting impact on the viewers,’ he added.
Shatabdi Wadud, however, dreams that big budget sci-fi films will be produced in the country someday. ‘I wish I could perform in an action film like Terminator 2 with heart beat accelerating actions, spine-chilling stunts and eye-dazzling special effects,’ the actor mused. A founding member of well-known troupe Prachyanaut, Shatabdi Wadud said that he is also a regular theatre actor, ‘Acting on stage is my passion. So I continue it despite remaining busy as a professional actor in films and teleplays’.
