Fazlur Rahman Babu tells
Noted TV actor Fazlul Rahman Babu says that he enjoys enacting challenging characters. The audience will see him in diverse roles in this year’s Eid plays, the actor said.
‘I’ve performed in seven Eid plays of which two dramas are directed by Salahuddin Lavlu titled Kabirajer Bou-er Ekjon Chhele Bandhu Chhilo and Joygaaner Chithi. I’ve enacted the role of a kabiraj (herbal medical man) and a vagabond in those plays. I enjoyed playing the characters, which gave me the chance to demonstrate my skills as an actor,’ Babu told New Age.
‘Another remarkable play I have worked in especially for this Eid is Shahidul Nabi’s Ghar Jamai. I have enacted the role of a husband who resides in the house of his in-laws. The comedy will definitely entertain the people of all ages,’ Babu said.
Though Fazlul Rahman Babu is a common face in teleplays and has appeared in over a thousand small screen productions, he says that he loves acting more in theatre and films. ‘Theatre and the films are the most important mediums for an actor to demonstrate his/her skills. Teleplays are not that worthy in this regard,’ Fazlur Rahman Babu said.
‘But, unfortunately the condition of contemporary films is not very encouraging. So, theatre is the medium where I work with full satisfaction,’ said Babu, who got widely acclaimed for his acting in films like Tauqir Ahmed’s Daruchini Dip and Giasuddin Selim’s Monpura.
‘Whatever it is–a film or a teleplay, the story is the most important thing to me. However, other factors like director, co-artistes and the character I’m offered are also important to be considered,’ he added.
Babu further said that he never wants to enact the character of a typical ‘hero’. ‘I feel comfortable playing a significant character rather than playing the hero, who will appear in action and romantic scenes,’ the actor stated.
