Ikebana, the art of arranging flowers, has been an inherent part of Japanese culture. But the art has surpassed national boundary and has been
avidly practiced in many countries.
Bangladesh is not an exception in this regard. In fact, there is local organisation called Ikebana Association which works to promote this art.
As part of promoting Ikebana, the association has organised an Ikebana Festival for the first time in the country. The two-day festival will begin today at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The festival will feature exhibitions of Ikebana works done locally,
a workshop on Ikebana and a cultural show.
Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, speaker of national assembly, will inaugurate the festival, while Shiro Sadashimo, Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh, and Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of BSA, will be present as special guests.
