Writer Imtiar Shamim and poet Khaled Hossain received Jibanananda Award on Friday at an award-giving ceremony in Barishal.
A day long festival was organised on the occasion jointly by Right Foundation Bangladesh, Dhansiri Sahitya Soikat Jhalakathi and Durba, a little magazine.
The award was conferred on writer Imtiar Shamim for his 22 publications including novels, collection of short stories, collection of essays, juvenile literature and other prose works.
Khaled Hossain was awarded primarily for his collection of poems. Besides, Hossain has authored other works like essays, short stories, collection of rhymes and publications on life and works of contemporary literary personalities and philosophers.
The ceremony was held at Abdul Khalek Auditorium of the city and was presided over by poet Asad Chowdhury. Noted litterateur Hassan Azizul Haq attended the programme as the chief guest.
The programme commenced in the morning with placing flower wreaths at Jibananda Das’ portrait at his ancestral house.
Besides award-giving, there was unwrapping of the cover of literature magazine ‘Dhansiri’, a discussion session and recitation at the programme.
