Egyptian artist’s solo exhibition at AFD
Sensuality is an undeniable part of human experience; at least, Sigmund Freud would like to argue so. Probably this is the reason why sensuality has also been a widely explored and portrayed theme in artworks from different eras around the world. Following that suit, Egyptian artist Walid Jahin seems to celebrate the theme of sensuality in his first ever exhibition in Bangladesh. Walid Jahin, a professor in the well known Alexandria University of Egypt in the department of fine arts, has exhibited around 30 paintings at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka. Titled Personage of Egyptian Vision, all the paintings explore human body and sensuality. Most of the canvasses are depictions of man and woman in intimate, ecstatic moments, rejoicing each other’s presence.
Jahin is credited for bridging the ancient Egyptian art, where human body and sensuality are the most dominant themes with modern art forms. What is striking about his works is that all the paintings seem to have a 3D effect. It is Jahin’s complete mastery over colours, mediums, lines and shades through which he creates such an effect that enhances the appeal of the paintings.
Jahin is a well known artist for his modern art techniques. He has received many prestigious awards. In 2013, he received the first prize from the seventh Tashkent International Biennale of Contemporary Art.
Inaugurated on September 2, the exhibition will remain open for all till September 13, except for Sundays.
