A four-day income tax fair began in Sylhet on Wednesday.
The finance minister, Abbul Maal Abdul Muhith, inaugurated the fair arranged by the Sylhet Divisional Income Tax Office at Mohammad Ali Gymnasium in the city’s Rikabibazar area at noon.
The organisers informed that the number of the taxpayers and the amount of collected taxes in Sylhet zone was increased
because of decentralising the official activities, accelerating the monitoring and simplifying the tax payment process.
The amount collected tax in the region was Tk 130 crore in 2009-10 fiscal, Tk 178 crore in 2010-11, Tk 281 crore in 2011-12 and Tk 371 crore in the 2012-13 fiscal, the organisers informed in the programme.
The organisers said arrangements were offered to the taxpayers for registering their names, filling tax returns and tax payments during the fair that would remain opened from 10:00am to 5:00pm every day.
Sylhet Zone Tax commissioner Soyayeb Ahmad presided over the inaugural programme that was also addressed by National Revenue Board chairman Golam Hossain, Sylhet district council administrator Abduz Zahir Chowdhury Sufian and sadar upazila council chairman Ashfaq Ahmad.
