The seven-day ‘Fourth income-tax fair-2013’, organised by the National Board of Revenue in Barisal city, drew a huge crow on Wednesday.
The fair began on the Barisal Ashiwini Kumar Hall premises September 16.
During the fair, the visitors were provided with services such as issuing tax identification number for the new taxpayers, income-tax return, application form for TIN, bank booths, help desk, information centre, legal advice on income tax and tax calculator software in 11 booths of the fair.
In the first two-day of the fair, 354 re-registered
their 10-digit old TIN for new 12-digit TIN, 370 people submitted their income-tax return and paid Tk 7,54,298 taxes through e-payment, said Abdur Razzak, deputy commissioner of taxes, Barisal regional tax office.
The DC taxes further said income-tax system would be digitised within December this year and then online tax payment of e-taxation would also be introduced soon.
Anisur Rahman, a private service holder, said, ‘I came here to get a TIN certificate for my banking purpose as I can get my TIN certificate in the fair within a very short time.”
‘Now-a-days, TIN certificate is essential for many tasks, especially for the banking purposes,’ said Moin Khan, another man filling form to become a taxpayer.
In the current fiscal, income tax collection under Barisal taxation region has been fixed at Tk 160 core.
The income tax collection was Tk 111 core against the target of Tk 125 core in last fiscal, said Abdur Razzak, deputy commissioner of taxes, Barisal divisional office.
Prashanta Kumar Roy, commissioner of taxes Barisal, said Bangladesh has a disproportionately low TIN holders compared to other countries, which must be increased.
About rampant allegations that a section of unscrupulous tax officials harass regular taxpayers in different phases, the tax official said, ‘We are trying to digitise income-tax system to create public confidence in the tax process by ensuring honest, efficient, transparent and accountable service.’
