Hazrat Shahjalal International customs authorities seized 65 gold bars weighing around eight kilograms; 11 thousand memory-cards and arrested an Indian national Monday night.
The arrestee, Dipok Kumar Acharya, 55, was a transit passenger who travelled from Hong Kong. His India-bound flight was scheduled at 10:00am Tuesday morning.
Airport customs commissioner Zakia Sultana told New Age that Dipok reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Hong Kong by a BG 079 flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines around 9:30pm on Monday.
Due to his suspected roaming around, a team of customs officials challenged Dipok and seized gold bars weighing around eight kilogram, 9,000 pieces of big-sized memory card, 2,000 pieces of small memory card and 11 iphone sets from his possession at about 11pm, said Zakia Sultana.
A case was filed with airport police station on Tuesday morning.
Airport Armed Police Battalion senior assistant superintend of police Alamgir Hossain said that Dipok was arrested earlier from the same airport along with smuggling goods.
