Green activists and local people of Netrakona on Friday demanded inter-city train service from Mohanganj to Dhaka. The demand came from a human chain formed by the Save the Environment Movement and United Peace Foundation in front of the Mohanganj rail station in Netrakona, a release said.
Speakers at the programme said many students from the district read in the institutions of Mymensingh and suffered a lot to reach there as there was no inter-city train from the station.
Inter-city trains from Mohanganj to Dhaka touching Mymensingh greatly help the students and also the general public who travel the route, they said.
Currently, only two local trains ply on the route which are mostly overcrowded and dirty, they said, demanding improvement of the trains’ condition.
Mohanganj Press Club president Jalal Uddin, Save the Environment Movement co-ordinator Atiq Morshed, United Peace Foundation Netrakona Zila president Jahirul Islam Rony, spoke, among others.
