Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu came under attack by two young men in London around 10:30pm (local time) on Monday night. Though the attempt failed, the attackers managed to flee the scene. The young men posing themselves as journalists made the attempt at the London office of private TV channel ATN Bangla when the minister went there to take part in a live talk show.
However, the minister told the local media over phone on Tuesday that he was safe and he took part in the talk-show after the incident.
“The two young men tried to deliver blows at me but they failed” the minister said adding that later they threw eggs on him.
He said that the communal and militant forces with whom BNP has alliance, might be involved in the incident.
“The attempt has been made to stop my voice in the mass-media but their effort will go in vain,” he noted.
“I hope that the attackers would be brought to the book by the law enforcers soon” he said adding that he would take part in all his scheduled programmes in London that include addressing a meeting of his party at Luton.
The anchor of the talk show Bulbul Hasan told the media that though two persons took the lead in the attack there were four or five persons with them.
Later police appeared in the scene and recorded the account of the eyewitnesses. They also took CCTV footages of the incident to identify the miscreants.
Meanwhile, Inu took part in the talk-show as usual after the incident.
On information, Bangladesh High Commissioner in the UK Mijarul Quayes, press minister Rashed Chowdhury and a team of London Metropolitan Police visited the spot.
London police were trying to identify the attackers from the footage of closed circuit television and arrest them.
The minister is scheduled to leave for Dhaka on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a PID press release issued on Tuesday said, the two men, posing themselves as journalists made an abortive attempt to attack the minister in London on Monday night.
