Is Madhuri Dixit worth Rs 5 crores?

When we speak about actress Madhuri Dixit, the only thing that strikes our mind is the word ‘evergreen’. Even if she is not an active member in B-Town Madhuri still has the power to grab the spot light, news paper headlines, camera focus and hearts of Bollywood Fans. Her short stay in India proved the star power she carries even now. But the major question that stand today is, if Madhuri Dixit is worth a risk of Rs 5 crore for any filmmaker.
Reportedly, actress Madhuri Dixit is demanding Rs. 5 crores to all the filmmakers who had recently approached her for their films (Reported by TOI). Though Madhuri has a huge fan base in India, but demanding Rs. 5 crores, which is again the current price of present divas like Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif or Priyanka Chopra, is something that pumps up the confusion.
Comparing Amitabh Bachchan stardom with Madhuri’s
Actor Amitabh Bachchan, also has the superstar charm that Madhuri carries, however, he is limited to doing roles that suits his age and persona. Though he plays an important and unique part in a film, Amitabh still cannot be counted with lead actors league. Doesn’t the same apply for Madhuri also? Taking into consideration, her limitations in the roles that she can play in the 21st Century Cinema.
Her last super hit
Her last hit film Devdas released eight years ago and from then onwards the Bollywood industry, its style, its portrayal, has changed a lot through the years. Not to be forgotten fact is that actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and actor Shahrukh Khan were along with her in the film. Later her film Aaja Nachle in the year 2007 failed to attract the eye balls. Does that prove that Madhuri Dixit no more has the power to attract the audience to the silver screen alone?
Analyzing the married Bollywood actresses
Madhuri Dixit definitely has much more potential when compared to actresses like Sridevi, Karisma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Sonali Bendre, Twinkle Khanna, who lost their charm in the industry as soon as they got married and became busy with their marital affairs. However, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kajol again have created another record after marriage by managing to remain one of the top notch actresses in Bollywood.
Industry’s reaction
The industries reaction to Madhuri’s demand is not too positive. A trade analyst of cinema says to TOI, “Who will give Madhuri five crores now? Though she does have the fan base, she isn’t a top actress anymore.” He adds that Madhuri will get roles in the films which are specially written for her, just like the way it is written for Superstar Amitabh Bachchan. “Madhuri needs a reality check. In case someone has a particular script in which only she fits, perhaps she will get the high price.” concludes the analyst.
The answers to all the questions will be answered after the release of her film. Till then we leave the Filmmakers thinking, ‘Is Madhuri worth Rs 5 crores risk?’
