Information and communication technology secretary M Nazrul Islam Khan on Saturday called upon the firms to come up with IT training programmes, including freelancing outsourcing for women, in order to create opportunity for their self-employment. ‘There are about 1,000 IT firms in the country. If they provide IT training to women, the number of IT literate women will increase who would be able to earn about Tk 1,000 crores per year,’ he said.
Addressing a function organized by Creative IT Institute in the capital to award scholarship to 100 women, the ICT secretary also said, ‘It’s not difficult at all for a woman to earn Tk 8,000 a month if she was provided with IT training on freelancing outsourcing covering Search Engine Optimization (SEO), 2D, 3D animation, web and graphic design.’
Bangladeshi freelancers have made remarkable success in the global online market, he said.
Describing ICT ministry activities to create freelancers, NI Khan said they are going to launch second phase of Learning and Earning programme soon to create 50,000 more freelancers across the country after generating 15,000 freelancers through first phase of that programme.
Chaired by managing director of Creative Communication, the function was addressed, among others, by Consultant of World Bank Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance Project Ajit Kumar Sarkar, project director of High-Tech Park ANM Shafiqul Islam and country manager of Elance Saidur Mamun Khan.
At the function, some 100 women selected from the 5,000 applicants through competitive online examination were also awarded.
The women will receive free training for four months on Search Engine Optimization (SEO), 2D, 3D animation, web and graphic design, digital film making.
