Three people were jailed by mobile courts on charges of harassing girl students in Faridpur, Natore and Nilphamari on Tuesday.
A mobile court jailed for six months Mithu Shiekh for harassing girls of a government child home at Tepakhola in the Faridpur town, the New Age correspondent in the district said.
The police said they had arrested Mithu at the child home premises when he was harassing girls on Tuesday morning.
The police also said Mithu had harassed the girls of the home for a couple of months.
The mobile court, led by upazila nirbahi officer Rahima Akter, reached the Kotwali police station about 3:00pm and sentenced Mithu to three months’ rigorous imprisonment. Mithu was sent to jail in the afternoon.
A mobile court at Dimla in Nilphamari jailed college student Sohel Rana, 22, for s month and fined him Tk 10,000 on charged of harassing a girl student, the correspondent in the district said.
The police said Sohel, a second-year student of Rangpur Lions School and College, had harassed the student of Dimla Womens’ College.
The mobile court, led by upazila nirbahi officer Mizanur Rahman, reached the spot on information and jail Sohel for a month. The court also fined him and he will need to serve three more months in jail if he would fail to pay the fine.
Sohel was sent to jail in the afternoon. A college student was arrested on charges of harassing a girl at Gurudaspur in Natore.
The Gurudaspur police officer-in-charge, Md Ibrahim Hossen, said Tuhin Sarker, a resident of Dharabarisa in the upazila and student of Gurudaspur Shamsuzzohz Degree College, had been arrested on charges of sexually harassing a student of Gurudaspur Women’s College in a case filed by her.
The police said Tuhin had harassed the girl for long and on Monday, he, along with some others, stopped her on her way in the morning and took her to a garden and tried to rape her and took her photograph with a mobile set.
As the girl cried out for help, the group left the place. She later filed a case. Tuhin was produced in court, which ordered him to be sent to jail.
