Home minister Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir on Sunday said that the Jamaat-Shibir activists have joined the procession and rally under the garb of the Hafazat-e-Islam and they have attacked the police, damaged and burned down public property. “We have talked to the leaders of the Hafazat-e-Islam and they have confirmed that the people who attacked police are not their activists,” he told reporters at his secretariat office.
Dr Alamgir claimed that the situation, prevailing in the capital, is under control. “But, we are observing the situation closely. We will do everything possible to maintain peace,” he said.
The home minister said that the leaders of Hafazat-e-Islam told us that they would hold peaceful rally at the city’s Motijheel and that’s why the authorities concerned gave them permission in hold the rally.
“We hope that the leaders of Hafazat-e-Islam will finish their rally before today’s magrib prayer,” he said.
Meanwhile, Advocate Shamsul Huq Tuku, state minister for home affairs, said that the law enforcement agencies are tackling the situation with patience.
