Japan ambassador to Bangladesh Shiro Sadoshima on Monday echoed the concern expressed by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay on the political confrontation and recent violence in the country. Shiro in a statement said, ‘We are also deeply grieved at ever increasing violence in Bangladesh.’ He said Japan, as a long-time friend and important stakeholder of Bangladesh, strongly condemns any kind of violence and destructive activities that seriously affect people’s life and development of Bangladesh.
‘We urge the leaders of all political parties to take all possible measures to end violence.’
The ambassador again urged the parties to engage in constructive dialogues to find a mutually acceptable solution for holding the coming general election in a free, fair, credible, inclusive and peaceful manner for the interest of Bangladesh’s future.
Earlier on Sunday, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay warned politicians in Bangladesh that they risk facing prosecution at the International Criminal Court based in the Hague on charge of election time violence.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Navi Pillay pointed out that Bangladesh is a State Party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
